Advocates of Lake County recently sat down with Elsa Tharp — a Lake County Commissioner as well as mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and two-time rape survivor — to talk about how Lake County’s proposed emergency shelter affects survivors like her. In this intimate conversation, Elsa shares her traumatic experiences with sexual assault in hopes of helping fellow survivors know they are not alone.
Despite her difficult experiences, Elsa remains a strong supporter of ALC’s proposed emergency shelter for those experiencing homelessness in Lake County.
Elsa’s story offers a powerful message to community members and decision makers on why commonly held fears about a shelter are unfounded.
This interview includes frank conversation about sexual assault as well as other traumatic experiences.
Please take care of yourself however you need to in hearing Elsa’s story.
