The Advocates has a decades-long history of helping survivors of violence.

The Advocates of Lake County was established in 1982 when a group of local residents decided to address the high incidence of domestic violence and sexual assault in Lake County, Colorado. These concerned community members began by setting up a crisis line and providing office hours in donated space in City Hall.

Today, the Advocates of Lake County is a thriving victim advocacy organization that offers crisis intervention services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The agency continues to grow and adapt to the needs of the community. Our most recent endeavor is our Latina Outreach Program, which is based upon the Promotora model of civic engagement. Our Latina Outreach Coordinator recruits natural leaders in the Latina community and trains them to serve as Promotoras in the domestic violence movement. These Promotoras provide culturally sensitive, bilingual direct advocacy services and educate the Latina community.
